Golf Fest 2015: Rancho Mirage, CA

Well, the Elf sure is “fired up” to attend “Golf Fest 2015” at the Gary Player course (westinmissionhills.com/Gary-Player-Course) in Rancho Mirage, CA.  This is our first golf trade show or festival so hopefully it will be good fun.

Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, 2015: Carlsbad, CA

It’s Bella’s birthday and we are off to Carlsbad, CA again for golf, chow and relaxation and we’ll be checking out a different golf course and resort.  We’re stopping off at a local breakfast hot spot called Beach Plum Kitchen before venturing to the hotel.

Brioche bread, vanilla bean ice cream and caramelized bananas help this “win the game”.

Portola Coffee Lab is the Shiznit!

Pardon my expression utilized in the title (see urbandictionary.com for the definition if you’re over 50 years old) as I bring back some slang from my youth.  I first became aware of siphon brewed coffee at Aoyama Cafe in Walnut, CA back in 2006 when we lived in Rowland Heights together for a city minute.  After it closed its doors I discovered Blue Bottle Coffee (bluebottlecoffee.com) in San Francisco and New York City.  If you are a true coffee lover and you haven’t “sniffed in” on siphon brewed coffee you are seriously missing out.

You will be hard pressed to find a smoother cup of joe anywhere.  So after I ramble on about siphon brewed coffee the truth is that it isn’t available today at the Portola Coffee Lab (portolacoffeelab.com).

Check Yelp for coffee houses that might feature this style of java brewing in your hood.

“8 Colorful Flavors of Pork Belly”…

There are times in this life when the food gods work in unison to offer up a delicacy which is nothing shy of paradise in the mouth.  Dining at Eight Korean BBQ (eightkoreanbbq.com) surely delivers in this regard.  The 8 flavors of pork which we consumed were as follows: rosemary; kimchi (“red pepper”); ginseng; garlic; regular; miso; curry and wine.  Enjoy the “sniff” my friends.

Night Trip: “Just Another Halo Victory”…

The game in question transpired just before the Los Angeles/Anaheim Angel’s baseball team “jumped the shark” (due to various reasons) sending their season into the carper faster than a Winnebago down Lombard Street in San Francisco.  This game features our Anaheim Angel’s versus the Baltimore Orioles.

Bella, Cindy, their friend and I had purchased tickets in advance.  I was on the phone with my childhood friend JB the day before the game and discovered that he and his pops (visiting from Ohio) were going to the game as well.  Very cool indeed…
